Black Americans on postage stamps

Digital Exhibit

This digital exhibit celebrates all the accomplishments and contributions of African Americans, and the postage stamps that depict them! Somewhat artificial categories, such as musicians, scientists, and social reformers, have been created to group the postage stamps, but keep in mind that a person’s accomplishment or life’s work doesn’t always fit neatly into one category. A scientist can be an inventor. A journalist can be a reformer. A musician can be a singer, songwriter, dancer, etc. And so on.

This exhibit was started in February 2022 during Black History Month, a time to spotlight the history of Black Americans, but this exhibit will stay up year-round so we can remember and celebrate the accomplishments of African Americans every month.
