The End of the Philatelic Truck

The Philatelic Truck took winter/holiday breaks every year it was on the road. 1941 was a little different. The truck was already scheduled for a holiday break starting December 14 after a 4-day stop in San Diego, California. The truck was in Yuma on December 7, 1941 — Pearl Harbor Day. The mobile exhibit continued its route and proceeded to El Centro and then San Diego. It was very well attended, given the circumstances.

After San Diego, the truck was sent to Los Angeles, the exhibits removed and sent back to Washington.

The truck remained in Los Angeles where it rotted away.
