Not everyone was excited about the philatelic truck…
The House of Representatives was angry that FDR did not get permission from Congress to use funds this way. According to journalist Isaac Gregg of The New York Sun,
” … Members of the appropriations committee severely condemned the action of the Post Office Department officials in having the truck constructed without specific authorization from Congress.”

At least one journalist also wasn’t having it. He accused the Post Office Department of using tax payer dollars to promote products — stamps — that they sell and called the philatelic truck an attempt “greatly to expand postoffice intake.”
